{"id":935,"date":"2012-08-16T09:22:25","date_gmt":"2012-08-16T13:22:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mapsurfer.com\/blog\/?p=935"},"modified":"2012-08-16T09:25:17","modified_gmt":"2012-08-16T13:25:17","slug":"20th-large-copper-of-the-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.puzzlemaze.org\/df\/blog\/archives\/935","title":{"rendered":"20th Large Copper of the Year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I fought my back issue Tuesday and Wednesday to detect a bit.\u00a0 Was skunked on Tue, but it was an old field, an all or nothing site.\u00a0 Wed was closer to a zone that had given up the goods in the past, and closer to an old building.\u00a0 I did not recover many targets in this zone, but got a deep silver quarter (it was in a wet zone, and you can see later in the post how years of mush and standing water have abused it), and a rather nice copper for Chester County in a drier section, an 1800 draped bust large cent.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.puzzlemaze.org\/df\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/081512.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-936\" title=\"081512\" src=\"http:\/\/www.puzzlemaze.org\/df\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/081512.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"703\" height=\"340\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.puzzlemaze.org\/df\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/081512.jpg 703w, https:\/\/www.puzzlemaze.org\/df\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/081512-300x145.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.puzzlemaze.org\/df\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/081512-500x241.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 703px) 100vw, 703px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It is still abused, of course, but does have full liberty and some hair detail.\u00a0 If you can believe it, it is one of the best coppers I have ever dug, and will likely earn a low spot on my best finds list.\u00a0 It is also my 20th copper of year, a personal record.\u00a0 It came in at 11-45 on the E-Trac, and was only 4 inches deep.\u00a0\u00a0 It was right on the edge of the site, near a road.\u00a0 Often you can get coins others have missed near the edge of zones.\u00a0 (This is a private property site which I have permission to detect, but during my time here, two other detectorists have come on the property without permission.\u00a0 I may blog about that someday, and the lack of ethics in the hobby in general.\u00a0 We&#8217;ll see).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.puzzlemaze.org\/df\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/081512a1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-938\" title=\"081512a\" src=\"http:\/\/www.puzzlemaze.org\/df\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/081512a1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"605\" height=\"293\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.puzzlemaze.org\/df\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/081512a1.jpg 605w, https:\/\/www.puzzlemaze.org\/df\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/081512a1-300x145.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.puzzlemaze.org\/df\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/081512a1-500x242.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 605px) 100vw, 605px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Speaking of which: Last Sunday&#8217;s hunt, mentioned Monday, was a scam.\u00a0 I wrote a long story Tuesday about it on how I used economics to work it out about an hour in, and then was lucky enough to see three pieces of physical evidence to confirm it.\u00a0 I pulled the story, cause a), it sucked, b) it was was too long, and c) the whole thing really isn&#8217;t worth ink or server space.\u00a0 I guess I&#8217;ll leave Monday&#8217;s stub up, which was put up instead of a story to see if others would work it out as well.\u00a0 I&#8217;m happy to report that at least 2 others did.\u00a0 The coolest thing about this, tho, was it was really cool to get a real life puzzle to work out.\u00a0 I guess that was the find of the day for me.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I fought my back issue Tuesday and Wednesday to detect a bit.\u00a0 Was skunked on Tue, but it was an old field, an all or nothing site.\u00a0 Wed was closer to a zone that had given up the goods in &hellip;
