{"id":2725,"date":"2019-09-20T14:53:28","date_gmt":"2019-09-20T18:53:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.puzzlemaze.org\/df\/blog\/?p=2725"},"modified":"2019-09-20T14:53:28","modified_gmt":"2019-09-20T18:53:28","slug":"horrible-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.puzzlemaze.org\/df\/blog\/archives\/2725","title":{"rendered":"Horrible Week"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Well, after finding a 4 reale which could not be verified, and a chain cent that could barely be verified, both stunning rarities if even in passable condition, the universe continues to mock my every move.<\/p>\n<p>Hit a couple of new sites, and a trusty old one that has produced 20 silvers including a nice seated quarter, and pretty much got skunked.\u00a0 Yesterday&#8217;s hunt in particular was quite frustrating, as I thought it was a nice out of the box area that would reward my research and powers of observation, and I was hitting tons of bottlecaps.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.puzzlemaze.org\/df\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/091919z.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2726\" title=\"091919z\" src=\"http:\/\/www.puzzlemaze.org\/df\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/091919z.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"462\" height=\"328\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.puzzlemaze.org\/df\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/091919z.jpg 462w, https:\/\/www.puzzlemaze.org\/df\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/091919z-300x212.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.puzzlemaze.org\/df\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/091919z-422x300.jpg 422w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 462px) 100vw, 462px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Unlike most, I absolutely love finding deep bottlecaps.\u00a0 They almost always sound like old coins, so everyone has to dig them.\u00a0 Moreover, lots of bottlecaps means the site was not hunted well in the 80s or 90s, an era when machines couldn&#8217;t tell them apart.\u00a0 They show the site was not detected very hard.<\/p>\n<p>When I find bottlecaps, I usually find silvers in greater numbers<\/p>\n<p>But, these bottlecaps were insidious.\u00a0 They were big, and sounded like deep silver quarters and half dollars.\u00a0 They were about 10\/11 inches deep in rock hard soil.\u00a0 Moreover, there was not a lick of a breeze, so it was on the hot side, and the gnats were brutal with no wind to keep them down.<\/p>\n<p>And not a single coin, outside a few pieces of clad.\u00a0 Not even a wheatie.\u00a0 My guess is that the evil Fill &amp; Grade twins had visited the site sometime in the past, as the bottlcaps seemed deep for their apparent age, and the machine likely would not have heard dimes and pennies at that depth (there was also 2 inches of grass on top).<\/p>\n<p>Oh well.<\/p>\n<p>One site did produce a lone silver quarter, so it wasn&#8217;t a total skunkfest, but that site is so overgrown with grass, only a fraction of it is swingable.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.puzzlemaze.org\/df\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/091919.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2727\" title=\"091919\" src=\"http:\/\/www.puzzlemaze.org\/df\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/091919.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.puzzlemaze.org\/df\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/091919.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.puzzlemaze.org\/df\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/091919-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.puzzlemaze.org\/df\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/091919-400x300.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Well, after finding a 4 reale which could not be verified, and a chain cent that could barely be verified, both stunning rarities if even in passable condition, the universe continues to mock my every move.
