{"id":1564,"date":"2013-02-26T18:57:59","date_gmt":"2013-02-26T23:57:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mapsurfer.com\/blog\/?p=1564"},"modified":"2013-02-26T19:04:53","modified_gmt":"2013-02-27T00:04:53","slug":"mystery-copper","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.puzzlemaze.org\/df\/blog\/archives\/1564","title":{"rendered":"Mystery Copper"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Back to yesterday&#8217;s site.\u00a0 The weatherman claimed it was getting up to 48 today, but it didn&#8217;t even feel close.\u00a0 No sun, and a biting chill wind.\u00a0 Felt like it was 28.\u00a0 Well, at least I&#8217;m fortunate enough to detect now as others deal with snow, so I should stop whining about the weather.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll whine about Chester County coppers instead, as that is a favorite topic around here.\u00a0 Pulled this treasure today.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.puzzlemaze.org\/df\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/022613a.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1565\" title=\"022613a\" src=\"http:\/\/www.puzzlemaze.org\/df\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/022613a.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"422\" height=\"421\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.puzzlemaze.org\/df\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/022613a.jpg 422w, https:\/\/www.puzzlemaze.org\/df\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/022613a-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.puzzlemaze.org\/df\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/022613a-300x300.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 422px) 100vw, 422px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>What&#8217;s interesting about it is that it is larger than a large cent or your typical British George II\/G III copper.\u00a0 Its a hefty 17.54 gr, 32mm diameter, and 2mm thick.\u00a0 Its diameter, at least, is consistent with a couple of the more exotic coppers in the early pages of the Redbook.<\/p>\n<p>(And I swear, before I looked in the Redbook, when I put it under water, it seemed there was a bust with a weird neckline and unusual hair, and the typical wreath on the back; features exactly consistent (along with the diameter), of the birch cent.\u00a0 It even appears to have lettering on the edge, tho I can only make out what looks like one or two of the letters.\u00a0 There are only 8 or so known of them, so its not that &#8212; amazing what the mind will do when it tries to fit ambiguity.\u00a0 Too bad I&#8217;ll never know what it is (and you don&#8217;t want it to be something that rare, cause you feel even worse that it is so abused).\u00a0 Oh, and if you are a copper expert a know a copper that fits those measurements, please post a comment.<\/p>\n<p>As for silver, continued to work the grid in the same direction per yesterday&#8217;s entry, and made up a little on the whacked dime\/quarter ratio, pulling 4 rosies, 3 of them barely legal.\u00a0 We&#8217;ll take em.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.puzzlemaze.org\/df\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/022613.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1566\" title=\"022613\" src=\"http:\/\/www.puzzlemaze.org\/df\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/022613.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"530\" height=\"476\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.puzzlemaze.org\/df\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/022613.jpg 530w, https:\/\/www.puzzlemaze.org\/df\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/022613-300x269.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.puzzlemaze.org\/df\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/022613-334x300.jpg 334w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 530px) 100vw, 530px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And the rest of the hunt produced a pic that is even harder on the eyes than that copper.\u00a0 A massive pile of clad.\u00a0 Yuck!\u00a0 That&#8217;s $5.50 worth of dirty money.\u00a0 Are you kidding me?\u00a0 I haven&#8217;t dug that much in a very long time. (Just an interesting fact for those reading who are not detectorists &#8212; just those 4 dimes above are worth over $8, compared to that junk below (of course its about the sport, not the money, but I figured I&#8217;d point that out for reference)).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.puzzlemaze.org\/df\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/022613c.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1567\" title=\"022613c\" src=\"http:\/\/www.puzzlemaze.org\/df\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/022613c.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"625\" height=\"416\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.puzzlemaze.org\/df\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/022613c.jpg 625w, https:\/\/www.puzzlemaze.org\/df\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/022613c-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.puzzlemaze.org\/df\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/022613c-450x300.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 625px) 100vw, 625px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I guess that it is statistical revenge, cause up to now, this site has had very favorable clad\/silver ratio, but I wasted alot of time digging it today.\u00a0 Problem was, they were mostly deep and iffy, and many sounded good due to nearby trash and perhaps the added effects of the heavy mineralization.\u00a0 You gotta dig &#8217;em, and it is painful. You don&#8217;t know how many times I was certain I had a silver Q.
