{"id":1190,"date":"2012-10-26T20:23:40","date_gmt":"2012-10-27T00:23:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mapsurfer.com\/blog\/?p=1190"},"modified":"2012-10-26T20:27:45","modified_gmt":"2012-10-27T00:27:45","slug":"1822-half-reale","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.puzzlemaze.org\/df\/blog\/archives\/1190","title":{"rendered":"1822 Half Reale"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A couple of days ago, I was whining about not being able to get into that dead zone of 1800-1890 silver at my current site, when coppers, IHs, and modern silver are present, as well as colonial era relics.\u00a0 This problem pretty much haunts me at most sites,<\/p>\n<p>But today I got in there with an 1822 half reale.\u00a0 Technically, its not a &#8220;Spanish silver&#8221;, but a Mexican coin.\u00a0 According to my Krause <em>Standard Catalog of World Coins<\/em>, it is from the &#8220;Empire of Iturbide&#8221;, whatever that means (I don&#8217;t know much of Mexican coinage or history; no doubt it means alot to those so endowed with such knowledge).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.puzzlemaze.org\/df\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/102612a.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1191\" title=\"102612a\" src=\"http:\/\/www.puzzlemaze.org\/df\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/102612a.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"598\" height=\"289\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.puzzlemaze.org\/df\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/102612a.jpg 598w, https:\/\/www.puzzlemaze.org\/df\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/102612a-300x144.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.puzzlemaze.org\/df\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/102612a-500x241.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 598px) 100vw, 598px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>For the curious, the coin is the size of an American half dime; slightly smaller than a dime, and thinner.\u00a0 On the E-Trac, came in at a CO of 35 to 37.\u00a0 Not something you would normally dig cause its in the dreaded zincoln zone, but if it has &#8220;that sound&#8221;, and is deep in an old field giving up colonial relics, you gotta dig em all.\u00a0 Of course, I dug a ton of zincolns today as well.<\/p>\n<p>As much as I love the find, I&#8217;d love to nail another American silver of the same age.
